Essay Contest Winners Announced

"What Freedom Requires Responsibility Means to Me" 
Essay Contest for Pasco County Fourth Graders

Pasco County FL - Brian E. Corley, Supervisor of Elections, Pasco County, in conjunction with Pasco County Schools, has announced the winners of the fourth grade essay contest entitled "What Freedom Requires Responsibility Means to Me."  First, second and third place prizes will be awarded at the second annual district-wide Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. at Center for the Arts at River Ridge.  Local businessman and veteran Tom Castriota will be on hand to announce the winners.  

First Place Winner receiving $100 Visa gift card sponsored by VFW Post 6180, New Port Richey, is Kinsley Abbott, Cotee River Elementary. 

Second Place Winner receiving $75 MasterCard gift card sponsored by Jarrett Ford, Dade City, is Julian Weiss, Hudson Elementary. 

Third Place Winner receiving a $50 MasterCard gift card sponsored by Jarrett Ford, Dade City, is Matthew Vreeland, Veterans Elementary School. 

Nearly 30 essays were submitted and judged by Tina Stavrou-Klem, Senior Instructional Specialist for Social Studies K-12, Pasco County Schools, Susan McHugh, Cambridge Civics and U.S. History, Pasco Middle School, and Beverly Ledbetter, Adjunct Professor, Department of Education, St. Leo University. The essay contest is a segment of the Pasco Constitutional Officers Essay Contest initiative, and part of our countywide education program.  It is in addition to our High School Voter Registration Drive, our Vote in Honor of a Vet Program, as well as our classroom presentations and school election program.
