"What Freedom Requires Responsibility Means to Me"
Essay Contest for Pasco County Fourth Graders
Pasco County FL - Brian E. Corley, Supervisor of Elections, in partnership
with Pasco County Schools is sponsoring an essay contest for fourth grade
students entitled "What Freedom Requires Responsibility Means to Me." The
essay should be at least 500 words and should be submitted by e-mail to
by 5:00 p.m. November 6, 2015.
The winning essays will be awarded a $100 Visa Gift Card sponsored by VFW
Post 6180, New Port Richey, $75 Visa Gift Card, sponsored by Jarrett Ford,
Dade City, and $50 Visa Gift Card by Jarrett Ford. The winning essay will be
presented as part of the Pasco County Schools 2nd annual district-wide
Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11th at the Center for the Arts at River
Ridge, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey.
The essay contest is a segment of the Pasco Constitutional Officers Essay
Contest initiative, and part of our countywide education program. It is in
addition to our High School Voter Registration Drive, our Vote in Honor of a
Vet Program, as well as our classroom presentations and school election
program. Our goal is to instill in children the importance of civic duty
which has come at a cost and should never be taken for granted. On another
level, we hope to encourage parents to vote as a result of awareness created
through their child's activity.
We would like to thank our prize sponsors for their contributions to make
this contest possible, and our contest judges, Tina Stavrou-Klem, Senior
Instructional Specialist for Social Studies K-12, Pasco County Schools,
Susan McHugh, Cambridge Civics and U.S. History, Pasco Middle School, and
Beverly Ledbetter, Adjunct Professor, Department of Education, St. Leo
